We started with a humble goal
1985 - "Give Our Very Best"
23 years later, we still have a humble goal
2008 - "We Stand Behind our Service"
(we are not stoopid enough to stand in front of it!)
Boy! We sure have learned a lot in 23 years!!!

TAG was started in 1985 by Steve Mekler. In 1986, Roland Chick caught the notice of Steve, due to his 'ability to test the rules' and was hired immediately. Roland and another manager - Chuck Hensch, grew in the sport rapidly and they decided to put that experience in a manual form to help others grow in the sport. The two met with Reggie Denner and Tom McGinley, who were already underway with this endeavor, and aided them to continue with an international paintball regulatory organization, NAPRA.

Roland grew so much that he: became an instructor; became a qualified air-smith technician; played for a pro team that won the largest tournament circuit in the country at the time, (which was back then in 1991, considered to be 'the world championship' of paintball); wrote articles; worked at indoor paintball fields; retail paintball shops; and other promotional venues.

In 1995, after several years of managing TAG, Roland became the owner of TAG. With full authority, the changes were rapid and bold. Offering higher safety standards, increasing the number of fields as well as increasing the number of games played in a day, better rental gear, using revolutionary concepts, pushing innovation trends had become the norm for him.

In 2004, Roland married Michelle, and became father to Halie, age 11; and Connor, age 7. He moved to Sacramento and started the 3-hour commute. Michelle saw Roland's vision of TAG, that she put up their homes for sale (one of them was her dream home) to buy the land in Hollister for TAG. There, they will build a house ON the field at TAG!

The challenges were big, but the vision was bigger! The latest challenge when developers offered the owners $53 million for the 70 acres that TAG sits on. The owners (L&W Inc) said 'no'. They gave their word to Roland and to sell it to him first! These men of honor know the value of integrity. They said that they have a 'greater responsibility' to the community than to sell out and make a lot of money. They will build this land into a destination location for recreation. In the next 2 years they will put in a miniature golf course, a go cart track and a water slide park for the community!

TAG has plans for a castle with a moat in 2009, a CQB for police/airsoft training, flushing toilets, etc. But no matter what happens, no matter what new features get built, no matter the innovations, it is still a family business with family values. 'I believe God has a sense of humor', Roland says, 'by putting me, of all people, in charge this!'

You can see the joy in the Chick Family as they serve everyone who comes. Their dedication and enthusiasm is unequalled. They get poked at for being 'Christians with Guns', but they just laugh it off and keep shooting (oops, I mean 'serving') people. You will be in for a treat when you come meet the humor filled, ball of energy in Roland. He will keep you entertained and make your visit a memorable one and not easily able to forget!

Their Mission Statement is: 'To Impact as Many People as Possible'. Their goal is to 'out serve the servers'. Everyone who comes to TAG blesses their family so much; what keeps Roland 'juiced' is to see if he can give more than he gets! This is really fun to watch!
